Lourdes Rodriguez:Bilingual Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. Graduated from University of Havana, Cuba in Nuclear Engineering. Received my alternative certification from Region 13 in Bilingual and Special Education. This is my 11th year at Houston Elementary.

Angela Neaves:Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. Graduated from Texas State University. Certified in elementary and special education. This is my 2nd year at Houston Elementary.

Goal: The Life Skills program incorporates an academic, functional, and developmental curriculum designed for students whose needs cannot be met solely in the general education environment. The Life Skills program provides an environment which allows for learning that is individualized, appropriate to each student's developmental and functional level, and supports the unique needs of students. All students receive instruction through the Life Skills program are an integral part of their school community and receive instruction in their least restrictive environment (LRE).

Academic instruction is the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) based using the TEKS essence statements and vertical alignment. The anticipated outcomes for each student is to ensure functional outcomes that are sustainable after the student graduates by providing a positive environment which prepares students to live as independently as possible, work, enjoy life, contribute to their community, and be lifelong learners.

Noelia Otero Oquendo, Special Education Teacher. I have been teaching  special education since 2010. I enjoy spending time with my family and dog Akira. I love to develop relationships with families. I believe that families have a great impact on our students' learning. 

 Josefina Ochoa, Paraprofessional. I enjoy cooking, dancing, and spending time with my family.

About each team member:

Clarissa Herrera. Ms. Herrera is a Texas State University graduate. This is her first year at AISD and is loving it! In her free time she attends graduate school, enjoys spending time with her friends and family, and trying new foods and new places to visit. 

 

Maria Gama. Mrs. Gama has been a paraprofessional in special education for 21 years. In her free time she likes to be active and exercise and loves running.

 

Cindy Lagunas-Gregorio. Ms. Lagunas is a first year paraprofessional. She likes to play with her 5 year old son and loves seeing her son while she is at work as well as she loves spending time with the rest of her family.

About each team member:

 

Daniel Busby, I graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Masters in Elementary Education. This is my 3rd full year at Houston Elementary. My original focus in school was mathematics grades 4-8. I love traveling with my family and educating future generations.  

 

Fatima Busby, I graduated from UMM, Monterrey, Mexico with an International Business Degree, and then received a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Texas State University. This is my 4th year at Houston Elementary. My favorite thing to do are road trips to historical sites with my family and creating amazing memories along the way.

 

Criselda Candare, I graduated from LNU in the Philippines, received a degree of Bachelor of Elementary Education major in Special Education. This is my 1st year teaching in Houston Elementary. Personally, I love to travel, explore and learn new things.

Joceline Rodriguez Salas, I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Degree of Bachelors in Public Relations and a minor in Business. This is my first year at Houston Elementary. I believe that education directly influences the lives and future of every person. This is why I want to learn how education impacts the lives of children right now, so I can communicate it to the world and let everyone know how else we can improve.
